Zero Carbon Records (ZCR) is a radical experiment in carbon-free music launched in 2021 by musicians Manu Louis and Sylvain Chauveau.
A ZCR concert follows a protocol requiring musicians and organisers to do everything possible to achieve zero carbon, both during the performance and en route. While this often leads to quixotic situations (such as having the artists travelling by bike or on foot), Zero Carbon Records aims to transform these colossal efforts into playful adventures and symbolic artistic actions.
The shows are either fully acoustic or power-driven by the audience pedaling on bicycles with a generator.
Whenever no carbon-free solution can be found, a carbon fiasco is acknowledged and announced at the start of the performance.
To date, tours have been organized across Belgium, France, and the Netherlands featuring performances by Melaine Dalibert, Sylvain Chauveau, Rosa Malheur, Manu Louis, Dogm 23 (Benjamin Collier), and Ensemble 0.
Since its creation, the collective has collaborated with L'Aéronef (Lille), Le Brass – Centre culturel de Forest (Brussels), Gaia Stage (Dalsbruk), Avant Post (Lille), the Neimënster Abbey (Luxembourg), and The Green Room (Granville).
